The Fix: What will Sharron Angle do?

That's short for "What will Sharron Angle do" and it's the question on the minds of almost every political operative in Nevada in the wake of Sen. John Ensign's (R) retirement announcement on Monday.

The Fix: Romney's tea party-friendly defense on health care

Mitt Romney made some of his most significant statements yet this weekend about the health care bill he signed as governor of Massachusetts, offering a preview of his defense for what many are expecting to be a potent line of attack for Romney's opponents.

Today in Congress

Recapping yesterday's action:

The House completed work on the America Invents Act. And along the way, they adopted seven amendments and rejected seven amendments. So the bill must be fair and balanced! And now, presumably, America will invent. Or continue inventing, I suppose. I don't really know what they thought this bill title meant. Hell, I'm amazed they didn't try to come up with an acronym for INVENTS.

The Senate's substantive accomplishments amounted to this: two amendments to the Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act, offered by Senators Diaper Vitter and DeMint were both rejected. Which means that nothing was actually accomplished, legislatively. But plenty of new amendments were filed, and there's an agreement in place for voting on some more nominations next week (including that of Gingrich-buster James Cole).

Looking ahead to today:

The House has some super-important business to deal with today. The Airport and Airway Extension Act, Part III! Then after that, the war in Libya, and whether it's being legally conducted pursuant to the War Powers Resolution. Well, not exactly. One resolution appears to simply authorize the action, and the other would impose some limitations on defense funding such that it could be restricted from use for the mission in the absence of Congressional authorization. That's a slightly different story than taking the thing on frontally.

Today's floor and committee schedules appear below the fold.
